F8 is a neat animated short film that I saw on some anthology show on the Sci-Fi Channel while I was in college. The film is very solid all the way through. I think the look is amazing and the design is remarkably unique. There is a lot of light bloom. Like, a LOT. While it could look distracting or annoying it works in this instance and has a very similar effect to Burial's ubiquitous crackle. Everything is deeply textured, and time slows a little while you watch it.
I was particularly hooked on F8's music/soundscape. Again, it's all enveloping texture. Thankfully, the Mr. Wen had a website set up for the film by the time I saw it, and information about everything could be found there. That music was created by a guy named Casey Hess and his band/project/thing called Jump Rope Girls. They only cut one (somewhat rare) CD before moving on, but I've gotten many miles out of my copy, and it includes the song (Protection) used in F8.
Aside from wishing they'd made more music, I also wish I could have seen one of JRG's shows. One member of the group is a very interesting artist named Don Relyea. His specialty is algorithmic art; he writes fascinating little programs and guides them into creating intricate works of digital beauty. Apparently he provided dynamic visuals for JRG's gigs, and judging by his other work, it must have been intense to experience:
